Register to Catch Us at the Black Research Symposium


Friday, March 24, 2023 3:30 - 4:20 pm at Hunt Library Room 4505, Ship and Anchor Founder and CEO Devin Smith with be presenting at the 1st ever Black Research Symposium alongside Dr. Craig Waleed and Dr. LaVerne Mattocks-Perry. The trio will be sharing research related to disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline and ending recidivism, and how Ship and Anchor evidence-based work towards those aims.


The session will begin with the screening of Smith's self-produced documentary short, providing context to our definition of "America's 3rd World" and how the Letters from America's 3rd World project and other Justice Initiatives work to transform the criminal legal system and the lives of those directly impacted by it.


This second stop on the "Reimagining America's 3rd World" college tour represents a homecoming for not only Devin, who graduated from NC State with a degree in Sociology and minor in Nonprofit Studies concentrating in Social Entrepreneurship, but also for Dr. Mattocks-Perry who received her doctoral degree from the NC State College of Education in Educational Leadership and Supervision, with an emphasis on policy studies.
